So we traveled up the coast to Oregon and hung out with Sarah Whitling for a few days and then made our way out to Breckenridge CO to chill with my ol' pal Spera, decided snow was not in our cards so we headed back to California,

And into Santa Cruz for a week at Wind Tree center and farm, where we met all sorts of good folks, had tasty communal dinners, did some roof work and started a new garden on a great stretch of property restoring the devastated land that was burnt to a crisp in a forest fire three years ago...

We made our way out to Chino Valley Arizona to work on Chino Valley Farm and are currently prepping this old schhool bus to paint a mural on as well as starting tomato transplants and growth for the seasons start.

we also hiked the grand canyon and i got loved on by this cat!

As of now we are in Eugene Oregon, we finally made it out west exploring the coast and SF bay area by foot, train and bus. After our van/printshop broke down in the deep south we set out with the clothes on our backs and the road ahead joining the ranks of a million odd ball dirty anarchist kids, spidering the United States living out of dumpsters and ally ways, a rather amazing support system we didn't know the depth and expanse of. There have been many days we wished we could sleep in a cozy van surrounded by our art supplies and equipt to cook some grub in a walmart parking lot, but it's so much more freeing having nothing but the barest of bare essentials.

We have been fortunate enough to be able to crash on some amazing folks couches and back ally bunk houses for a few good nights of rest. The stories, folks, rebels and places that we have come across are countless, dangerous at times and have fueled our senses with enough inspiration to create truckloads of art, poems and creations for years to come. These three photos are from San Fran, after running into just enough cash to wash our clothes and refuel, loving the bay area like a home we never knew.

Having only really seen the east coast as the meca of art and restless kids opposed to the systems laid out for us like a giant mouse trap, it's exciting to see the west-coast in all its glory, especially after all the empty, homophobic, overly-conservative and down right strange cities of mid-south America. Even the smallest of west coast differences like every single store and business having a compost, recycle and landfill barrel to the generosity and open-minded-ness that New England could never understand. Everyone out here homeless, rich, blue collar and white have shown such a heightened level of interest in where we are from, going and thinking, that it builds a sense of community far beyond the idea of place in the minds eye. It's impossible to understand unless you've been out here, its actually quite unbelievable even now, like a utopia dream land. A place where people actually care about small zeen stores with bizarre anarchist publications complete with ideas of a better future. The West...The Best

Great Day To Go Foraging For Mushrooms In Maine

Today was a great late season search for some mushrooms. My friend Lisa and I found some great end of the season Chanterelles and Trumpet Chanterelles for cooking and saw a great selection of other specimen such as the Peppery Milky, only a single Bolete, plenty of beautiful Amanita's, White Coral, Some Velvety Earth Tongue, Jack O' Lantern clusters and many more interesting varieties. I rushed home took a shower and cooked this wonderful meal:

Jim's and Gerrit's are NOT done at all...I'm catching all the walls up to the same point and then working them all at once to bring them together as a whole piece.

The mural focuses on 5 North Shore/Boston poets, Jim Dunn, Gerrit Lansing, James Cook, Jim Behrle and Joe Torra. They are great writers and good friends of mine. They have all written poems for the mural inspired by the local area. So far I've spent 6 hours painting the first wall ...

Clouds so swift,

they roll and kiss

forming a perfect

smoky sculpture

of my father on his deathbed.

Out to sea, miles off

the coast of Gloucester

I see his slack

jawed open mouth

robbed of speech,

without a vocabulary.

Each breath a lifetime

of forgotten childhoods

An eyebrow raised

formed by the shadows

The pained expression

in rolling white plumes

Out of the water,

into the sky on a string,

a dying haddock lands

at the end of his fight,

gaffed and mouthing a kiss -

The blue sea water

as he flops on the deck.

This is a shitty cell pic but...

...What i have been doing in my drawings lately is using the process of mark making, allowing objects and planes of space to emerge, then choosing what I'd like to pull out and what I'd like to push back during the 'process', over and over until the drawing is fully 'rendered' to my liking...I've started to do this with my painting process and it's a bit difficult for me to decide, because the paintings are about and of a certain people, weather or not i should bring emerging faces and figures into a state that realistically represents the subject of the painting, or leave them as they emerge not forcing the emergence to represent what is does not happen naturally. So i ask my self...Is this enough? Should i decide to paint the objects and then abstract and bring in space? Is a switch in conscious decisions between the two processes of drawing/painting what you actually see and what you feel too much of a dichotomy to fight with in painting?

There are so many ways to fuck up a painting or drawing and so many ways to make it work, perhaps this is to much scribbling and erasing in my mind?!!?!?!?!

Settling Into Painting

It has been an exciting and insanely busy few months meeting and spending time with poets and photographing them for reference for paintings. So far I've had the pleasure of spending time with and photographing Jared Paul, B Dolan, Buddy Wakefield, Andrea Gibson, Derrick Brown, Shira Erlichan, Gerrit Lansing, James Dunn, Michael Gizzi, Anne Waldman, Charley Shively, and Jack McCarthy. In the time in which I've been traveling and meeting these poets I've been working on a painting of William S. Burroughs that i will post a picture of soon. In the months to come i will be stretching canvases for all of these poets based on imagery i work up from intensive research into each of the poets lives and work, and begin painting. Along with my mural of Olson and Ferrini in the process, I'm researching the lives of sinced passed poets, Robert Creely, Ezra Pound, Frank O'Hara, Jack Spicer, Robert Duncan, and John Wieners for paintings as well. I also hope to meet and be able to paint Clark Coolidge, Chuck Stein, Amiri Baraka and Patricia Smith in the near future

This fall I will be starting a series of large format paintings of poets. So far the list includes, Jared Paul, B Dolan, Buddy Wakefield, Corrina Bain and Michael Cirelli, Alixa and Naima The series is in preparation for a MAY 2010 first showing at Montserrat College of Art.

I have come to develope a strong love for the art of Spoken Word and for the dedicated poets who i've build friendships with over the years. These Poets are changing this world for the better, using their words like magic on our minds. They build worlds out of these words they choose to use and plant seeds in our heads to grow and expand and form a foundation for wisdom, in time.

I hope this series will grow and expand exponentially as i come to discover new talented poets. My goal is create a collection of paintings of amazing people, for others to discover and find meaning in as a group, as well as mesh the art worlds of word and paint.

These are some sketches of a mural I'd like to do at Bikes Not Bombs in Boston, MA. The foreground is made up of Bike and clock gears, representing change and forward motion through time. Riding over the Gearscape are 3 bikers from three different time periods. As they petal forward they leave a trail of grass and fertile land behind them. Above, in the sky, planes drop parachutes holding crates of free food and bikes. The bicyclists could possibly be Henry David Thoreau, Jared Paul...etc Basically any important activist figure throughout history that would have chosen a bike over a car.

The series is a personal study of the human brains evolution and what persuades people to sacrifice themselves. Based on my thoughts from the book, 'The Origin of Consciousness and the Breakdown of the Bicameral Mind' by Julian Jaynes.

Food Not Bombs in Beverly

Its official, the first meeting to gather folks willing to volunteer their time to cook Vegan food for the hungry and homeless on the Beverly Commons.

First meeting is set for next Friday, September 5th at 11:30am in the Montserrat student lounge.
